Type: Press Release

Guns, mercenaries, and African dictatorships to come to the Matrix online store

Matrix Games and GFI (www.gfi.su) are pleased to announce that Matrix Games will be bringing the highly anticipated tactical combat game Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge to the Matrix Games Online Store for its official online release in late November! With anticipation for Hired Guns steadily growing since it was praised as having everything the original [Jagged Alliance] has – and more,” gamers can expect to be hiring mercenaries, planning strategies and using combat tactics to overthrow (or help) African dictators and get rich in the process by late November.

David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said “Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge combines an addictive tactical mode reminiscent of previous great tactical games with a strategic mode that lets the player choose where to go and what to do, as well as equip and train all of their soldiers for maximum effectiveness.  Hired Guns takes a solid and proven game concept and expands on it to create a wholly new but still familiar experience.”

Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge is a turn-based strategy that puts you command of a squad of specialists for hire in the genre’s biggest game-world yet: the African country Diamond Coast.  Diamond Coast is a playground for the cruel and corrupt, each with their own agenda.  Choose your friends wisely and buy an army of ruthless mercenaries to unleash mayhem on your foes.  Choose “jobs” from different factions and complete them for cash to upgrade your weapons and hire more elite soldiers of fortune.

Tons of firepower and plenty of combat experience will give your team the edge when it comes to fighting, but smooth talk and a wad of bills can also go a long way towards ensuring success. With multiple story lines and endings, you’re in total control of your own fate.

  • Ally with up to four different factions for unique bonuses.
  • Crush your enemies with over 150 upgradeable weapons.
  • Hire over 30 mercenaries with various specialties and skills.
  • Destroy everything in your path with a fully interactive world and realistic physics.
  • Gain territory with brains, brawn or cold hard cash.
  • Determine your own fate with multiple storylines and endings
  • Train your mercenaries to becomes experts at their craft or create all-around soldiers effective at every facet of combat.
  • Attach special equipment to weapons like laser sights, scopes, grenade launches, and more to maximize their lethality.
  • Smooth talk your enemies into working for you with the right combination of intimidation, wisdom, and money.
  • Survey terrain and buildings in a fully 3D tactical mode. Zoom up close and personal to your mercenaries or back from the action to get a larger picture of the battle.
  • Complete side missions to gain extra cash or loyalty
  • Upgrade captured territories with extra defense or squeeze more cash from them with new facilities and upgrades.

HoW15 - Why is this game about World War 2, again?

Friday, May 29, 2015

Eastern Front is out fashion, they say. Ardennes are trendier these days. Pacific has been ignored for far too long and North Africa campaigns are not too popular, Husky is not doing too well and so it goes. But why are we always talking about World War 2, in the end?

There are interesting studies about this, that range from psychology to actual gameplay and customers behaviour analysis. One goes, for instance, that World War 2 allows a natural progression for players, from invasion of Poland to harder fought Operation Barbarossa, to get into gameplay mechanics gradually, in a historically accurate setting.

Reality is that World War 2 as a topic sells games. Or gives more chances for games to succeed in the market, at least. According to data we have on hand, which take into account over fifteen years of history, the only setting that's able to compete with World War 2 is Sci-Fi. So scienc

What defines complexity, after all? Does a game for experts need to be hard to play? Over the years there has definitely been a race to add more details to the games. Abstraction has become an design target few wargames developers are willing to pursue, because it breaks the rule of historical accuracy, but is the real thing fun to play?
